Meet Your Storyteller
Hi. I'm Doug Scherer, and welcome to Grandpa's Campfire Stories!
I've been a storyteller—and a campfire enthusiast—for more years than I'd care to admit without a lawyer present.
For as long as I can remember, I've appreciated the magic of a good story. There's something special about gathering together, sharing a laugh, getting caught up in a little suspense, and wondering what might happen next. Whether it's a tale passed down through generations or an adventure inspired by real life, I believe the best stories are the ones that stay with you longer after they're told.
At Grandpa's Campfire Stories, you'll find a little bit of everything:
- Real-Life Adventures: Stories inspired by actual experiences. Most of them are true. Maybe.
- Folk Wisdom & Fables: Timeless tales and traditional folklore with my own creative spins.
- Tales from the Deep Woods: Adventures inspired by nature, wildlife, bushcraft, and the mysteries of the great outdoors.
- Stories with a Twist: Just when you think you know where a story is going, it might take a sudden left turn!
Some of my stories are crafted for little ears, while others are better suited for the older, wiser crowd. Whether you're looking for a good laugh, a little suspense, or a story that leaves you thinking, there's something here for everyone.

What Kind of Stories Do I Tell?

My love for the outdoors has played a big role in shaping the stories I tell. Through countless hours spent exploring the woods, practicing bushcraft, tracking wildlife, and learning about the natural world, I've collected plenty of experiences and inspiration along the way.
Some lessons came from careful observation and experience. Others came from discovering, sometimes the hard way, which wild plants are edible and which ones are better left alone!
These adventures, along with my appreciation for folklore, humor, and a good unexpected twist, have helped shape my storytelling style.

To me, storytelling is about more than entertainment. It’s about bringing people together, sharing experiences, sparking imaginations, and keeping an age-old tradition alive.
That’s what Grandpa’s Campfire Stories is all about.
So, pull up a cozy camp chair, pour yourself a hot cup of cocoa, and settle in. There’s always room for one more around the campfire.
"Each story is like a quilt, the fabric may change, but the patterns remain the same." - Doug Scherer, 2026
